Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, effective way to start a fire. I have had one of these for 30 years and still going strong. If used correctly it can star a fire in damp conditions. Shaving the magnesium is key in starting a fire in damp conditions. On the survival shows they always try to rely on the striker without the magnesium. They don't realize the sparks start the magnesium and the magnesium burns at 6000 degrees farenheit. Use the smooth side only. I carried it every time I went to the field in the Army and camping with my son in Boy Scouts. He learned to start fires with one of these.
